I like the bee-like hoverflies. I learned about them as a young child (yes, I was animal-crazy all the way back then, too) and used to delight in amazing my friends, who thought I was incredibly brave when I tempted them onto my finger or tickled them on a flower

A very fine collection of neat bugs. You must live in bug heaven. Very nicely photographed.

Were these with the new 90D?

Thanks! Would you believe I live in the desert? Not as many bugs as I would like but the ones we have are pretty interesting! The recent antlion pics and the katydid pics were both taken last night with the 90D. Once the weather cools down a bit I might take a few dusk/night trips out to see if the tarantulas are still active, that should be interesting.

And don’t forget the black light. Very cool for finding scorpions! :)

And as I mentioned in your other thread. Very nice set of photos!

Thanks! I'm not a fan of scorpions, so I'll take a black light so I can find them and stay far away. I've been stung enough that I am well aware that I do not like, more reminders are not necessary! :-D

You don't need fancy lights to find scorpions. Just go barefoot. I guarantee you'll find one.

Thanks! Cicadas aren't the most exciting (but maybe one of the most annoying?) bugs, but they have one of the oddest shaped heads out there!

I quite like cicadas! Went to the Amarillo area of Texas several years ago and expected to find an insect wasteland but was surprised to see quite a few bugs, including a bunch of cicadas. Here are a couple of then.
