I thought it was made up of tiny bits of organic matter but could be wrong.
It looked like tiny bits of chewed off leaf or bark glued together.
I'll see if I can find it again and try and get a better photo of its home.

That's a fairly common strategy adopted by larvae, both on land and in fresh water, but I've never seen one that holds its 'house' overhead as it perambulates and they usually move quite slowly.

If it was galloping and made a clip-clopping noise, it is probably related to a horse. Micro Equus caballus.:-)

Amazing little creature and well captured.

Is that part of its body, or is it a home that it has adopted?

Ah, very interesting, a caddisfly larva. Neat website - I learned some new words there.

I don't know what kind of bug this is. I shot it on a sunflower.

It was tricky to follow this hyperactive Velvet Mite with the lens set to over three times life size. Out of six shots this was the best frame.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (over 3x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT (E-TTL metering, -1/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. I used an artificial flower to keep the background from being black.

Nice shot! Shooting at 3X is not easy.
