this came inside on my socks so I took it outside for some photos, but after the second one it flew off, just as I was getting better setup!

Until recently it has been quite a few years since I spent any time doing anything close to macro photography. At one time I did a lot of wildflower work, but realistically that fell into the close-up realm more than macro. Since picking up the M6 Mark II I've found myself walk around doing more of this kind of work and for Christmas my Sigma 150mm macro was upgraded to the Canon 180mm f3.5L. I'm not sure it is any sharper (I doubt it really) but the autofocus is faster and when paired with the M6...can you say working distance?

I went on a short walk yesterday to try it out and found this hoverfly sitting on a dandelion which is one of the few nectar food sources still blooming readily I suspect.

Calligrapher fly (Toxomerus marginatus) - handheld, and in retrospect I should have been using tracking vs. one shot AF.. I would have probably netted more keepers.

M6 Mark II

Bioluminescent glow-worm (Arachnocampa flava) with its snares at Springbrook National Park. These are the larvae of a fungus gnat which produce light to attract prey insects, which become trapped in the sticky mucus on the snares. Very cool little insects!

Stephen are those the bright orange and black spotted lady birds common here?
I've never seen baby ones.

The glow worms are fascinating
I ventured into an old mine a while back where I was working and these chandeliers were hanging down everywhere.
Never seen such a beautiful site
And things like Daddy long legs.
Unfortunately I couldn't get any decent photos.
Yours is beautiful. As is that last one.

Thanks Richard! I think that the ladybird larvae are tribe Coccinellini, but not sure of the species. But they will become one of the orange and black ladybirds that are relatively common.
And yes, the glow-worms are indeed a beautiful sight! The ones that we have in SE Qld are Arachnocampa flava, whereas you have A. tasmaniensis down there (which I've seen near Russell Falls at night). But they are quite similar.

Cheers,
Stephen
