Stephen these are very nice and must be fascinating to watch.
Does the insect sit on, stand over the eggs, babies as a bird on a nest? Waiting for them to hatch?
Beautiful photo.

Thanks Richard! Yes, she sits over the eggs for about 10 days until they hatch, and then maintains guard over the first instar juveniles until their first moult. And she doesn't feed at all during this time!

Here is a different species that does the same thing... the Hibiscus Harlequin (Tectocoris diophthalmus), photographed yesterday.

I used the Sigma 105 Macro with my 1.8 50mm Nikkor reversed on the front to give me 2:1 reproduction. There's a lot wrong with it but there's a lot right too given how quick the little fellow was. :)
Light supplied by my Yongnuo YN685 with one of the DIY diffusers.

Thanks very much guys! There haven't been too many Hibiscus Harlequins around lately, so it was nice to catch this one.

And a normal colored lady bug. I had never taken a picture of one of these, and for some reason I thought they were kind of slow...I was wrong. These things are not only fast, but quite erratic in their movement!

My daughter loved this one because it was purple. I have no clue what kind of beetle it is, but I see a decent amount of them roaming around!

And a little grasshopper. This one was much smaller than the ones I normally see around here, could easily sit on the end of my finger, whereas the usual ones I see are about the length of my index finger.

Jay, a marvellous set of bug pics. Very interesting subjects too.

That weevil has quite the proboscis. Not sure if I have seen one like that.

I have a pic of a stubby beetle that somewhat resembles yours. I think it was in the Pachybrachis genus. Pic below.

I too have never seen a white ladybug before... but I have seen all-black ones.

I've seen metallic-black beetles like that, and if they are the same kind, they are quite tiny.

The second grasshopper pic is quite stunning.
