These Hibiscus Harlequin eggs that I photographed 6 days ago have now hatched! The babies are all huddled together, but Mum is still keeping a careful watch over them :)

Awesome. Beautiful to see.
Very well observed and photographed.

Can I ask what your focal distance is from these wasps with your set-up? :)

I'm pretty much at the closest focus distance, which puts the front lens element some 30 cms (12 ins) from the Wasps.

I think the MFD is 48 cms which is to the sensor.

Cheers

Dennis

EDIT: corrected MFD to 48 cms (was 38)

Thanks fpr that info, Dennis...

I just looked at the Canon specs and data and I think that combo at MFD would give me a 1.69:1 macro ratio, which is quite nice.:-)

x1.21 for the 25mm Ext Tube and x1.4 for the Extender.

Cheers

Dennis

Copper-colored beetle, probably Altica spp.

Would have loved to have had my macro lens with me when I spotted these, but I only had my new 16-35L on the 5DIV. Not too unhappy with the results, even though they are big crops and the light was poor. I already really like the 16-35L. Must be a tough life being a female beetle! I'm sure Archibald will be able to ID them for me.

Good shots under challenging circumstances! Looks like quite the party going on there. As for ID, I'm not good at that, but I'm guessing genus Altica, like the one I posted earlier, but different species.

I like the thin film interference I've caught in the wings of this Marmalade fly.

That is super.

Thanks Arch, very pleased with the mandibles am I :)

A few more from the garden today.
This is Amblyjoppa fuscipennis I think. Which is interesting because it emerges from the pupa of the Small Elephant hawk moth after the eggs are laid in the caterpillar. It'll be a nice first for me if I'm due to have SEHM emerging in the garden or nearby.

And although there are a number of similar species, I'm fairly certain based on the hind tibia that this is Helophilus pendulus - 'The Footballer'
A first in my garden
