This is Merodon equestris I think, a fairly convincing bumblebee mimic from a distance.

And some ants, milking, not top quality but not bad for fun.

Finally Syritta pipiens, the Thick-legged hoverfly (named for obvious reasons)

Forgot this one, Black vine weevil - Otiorhynchus sulcatus.
Responsible for plant devastation in gardens if unchecked, luckily the ground beetles help me to keep the numbers at a sustainable level.

Thanks Arch, very pleased with the mandibles am I :)

A few more from the garden today.
This is Amblyjoppa fuscipennis I think. Which is interesting because it emerges from the pupa of the Small Elephant hawk moth after the eggs are laid in the caterpillar. It'll be a nice first for me if I'm due to have SEHM emerging in the garden or nearby.

And although there are a number of similar species, I'm fairly certain based on the hind tibia that this is Helophilus pendulus - 'The Footballer'
A first in my garden

Very nice shots, especially IMO the wasp. They are so pretty but very mean in nature.

Thanks.
I don't think of it as mean, it's just what they do to survive. Also don't forget there's a fine line between parasitism and symbiosis!

Liparus glabrirostris - Europe's largest weevil. First time I have seen one, and of course, another came along right away, just like a bus.
