I generally use AV mode and a fixed ISO with ETTL

Then realise your ss can't exceed 200(max with 5DIV and flash) and if there is more light there is no way to adjust(with fixed iso and aperture).

Ah yeah good point. Perhaps I should use Auto ISO though obviously if it gets down to ISO 100 it cannot reduce this any further.

I haven't used much flash before in the past so this is all a bit of a fun learning curve for me.

Sorry I think I missed that in your previous post. I wasn't aware ISO with auto-iso was fixed at 400 when using flash - why is this the case when I can use flash and ISO 100 when not auto ISO?

Yeah, that first one must be small, or the leaf is huge.

It's a decision Canon has made, they could have chosen whichever iso-value but settled on 400, probably as in their eyes it's a good compromise. Letting the camera/flash choose the iso and the amount of flash-light at the same time seems too much to ask.

Thanks - I just googled it and I understand it now a bit better. Thanks for pointing this out to me - I had never even heard this mentioned before.
