My 35mm and 24-105mm RF lenses both have a A/M switch on the lens body for Auto AF or Manual AF.

I have found the Canon x1.4 Extender Mk III to be very useful, with excellent IQ and responsive AF provided I maintain sound shooting techniques to avoid camera shake.

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Dennis - that is interesting to hear. When I do upgrade to a mirrorless Canon I suspect I will use my existing lenses for some time before I can update to the RF lenses.

I have the Canon x1.4 Extender Mk II so perhaps the Canon x1.4 Extender Mk III is better - or more likely it is my technique that needs improving. My main use of it has been stalking deer on Exmoor so all hand held and subject far away and lousy light too I recall.

I have used both the Mk II and the Mk III with my zoom 100-400 Mk II and prime 400mm F5.6L. Provided I practice good technique (and I need to continuously practice it :-)) I have been very pleased with the results from both extender models, for subjects that are close enough not to be affected by ground hugging air currents or crud in the air which damages the image quality.

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Dennis, I will have to hold up my hand then to the issue being my technique. Guilty as charged:)

I did actually use the extender to shoot the moon and the results were fine - I had forgotten about that

I think you have to be using a Sony to stalk deer on Exmoor don't you?

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

Another shot taken in the heat of the day (28C/86F) and the critter was hyperactive. Fortunately this beetle was more hungry than afraid, and I'm getting better at tracking moving subjects with the camera and had several frames to choose from. If you've ever wondered why I don't focus stack it's images like this one that are one of the reasons why.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 200) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (over 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX RT (E-TTL metering). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. In post I used Topaz Denoise AI, Sharpen AI, and Clarity in that order.

Nice angle. Must have been a very small beetle.
