Another kidnapped weevil. I had about 3 minutes on the daisy before it flew away. I found it on the window the next day, so just opened window & let it out.

Great shot. They have such long antennae. Have you stumbled upon any monarch caterpillars in your milkweed yet? I've only seen one & it was quite small.

There aren't a whole lot of the red ones but something tells me that will change in the upcoming week or so. Image hosted by forum (1058415) © Pigpen101 [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. I've only seen one & it was quite small. Those long antennae betray their membership in the longhorn beetle family. They are a western species, looking a bit brighter than the ones out east as far as I remember. The milkweed is "showy milkweed", a different variety from the common milkweed out east, but it looks very similar. I was looking for any signs of monarchs but found none. According to sources, monarchs are found in southern Alberta. Never seen one here, though. Canon R5 and R7, assorted Canon lenses, Sony RX100, Pentax Spotmatic F

I must say, I'm a little impressed with the variety of life these milkweeds are able to sustain. Aphids must change colors in their life cycle. They are tough to photograph. Thanks, John! pcs wrote in post #19106782 It's a ground bug: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxycarenus_lavaterae Had to look it up myself, used Obsidentify. Used to be from the warmer regions to the south but now it's seen here apparently. Interesting, a new one on me. Obsidentify looks real interesting, but it appears to be for the Benelux. Maybe similar apps exists for other regions. Canon R5 and R7, assorted Canon lenses, Sony RX100, Pentax Spotmatic F
