Another kidnapped weevil. I had about 3 minutes on the daisy before it flew away. I found it on the window the next day, so just opened window & let it out.

Went looking for birds with the 100-400mm II and 1.4X III but didn't find any, but found some bugs. Here is a red dragonfly.

Not sure what this little guy is but he was hiding in the dark. Got maybe 3 shots before it just disappeared.

Great shot. They have such long antennae. Have you stumbled upon any monarch caterpillars in your milkweed yet? I've only seen one & it was quite small.

I've been saving for that lens for a while now. Wanted it mostly for sports & wanted to have it by this year's football season. No hurry now.:-(

These guys come in red too?!?! So far, I've only seen yellow & in large numbers. There aren't a whole lot of the red ones but something tells me that will change in the upcoming week or so.

These guys where on a milkweed plant. I must say, I'm a little impressed with the variety of life these milkweeds are able to sustain.

Those long antennae betray their membership in the longhorn beetle family. They are a western species, looking a bit brighter than the ones out east as far as I remember. The milkweed is "showy milkweed", a different variety from the common milkweed out east, but it looks very similar. I was looking for any signs of monarchs but found none. According to sources, monarchs are found in southern Alberta. Never seen one here, though.

Aphids must change colors in their life cycle. They are tough to photograph.

Yes, every milkweed plant is like an apartment building for bugs! And this despite the milkweed plant having toxin in its sap.

Some kind of assassin bug? Nice.

It's a ground bug: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxycarenus_lavaterae (external link)

Had to look it up myself, used Obsidentify.

Used to be from the warmer regions to the south but now it's seen here apparently.

Interesting, a new one on me. Obsidentify looks real interesting, but it appears to be for the Benelux. Maybe similar apps exists for other regions.
