I like the simplicity of this though the shadow on its back kind of ruins it.
It is on my sunflower that has finally flowered when most other sunflowers in this country have long died

Hungry ant with whitefly in mouth and lady beetle larva either going to the bathroom or laying eggs if larva can lay eggs.

Great image. I've never seen them lay eggs, although I'm no expert. From this stage, they pupate & emerge ladybugs.

Here are some more strange bedfellows:

(and larvae don't lay eggs)

It can be interesting to see how bugs get along when they meet. Seems these were OK with each other. Ants tend to be very aggressive, even against much bigger insects.

This is mostly likely the species of the larva in the picture.

Lady beetle are so scarce I released 18,000 of these guys this year to eat white flies and had some signs of reproduction as you can see with the one with no spots yet.

Thanks for the remarks and great bug buddy shots. I've got thousands of pics to go back and review this winter. Should be posting lots of surprises when I look closer at the files. There's so much going on in that environment that you just can't find without a great macro lens. The Sigma 105 is sweet as you can see.

Here is one example. To catch a snail and an ant head-to-head was a pure coincidence.
