Excellent shot!

Did you take it using the R6's auto focus?

Yes - and this was part of the "problem".:-)

I originally set up the EOS R6 for "Animal Eye" detect AF for birds in flight and customised the "AF-ON" and "*" Buttons on the EOS R6 to toggle between "Spot AF" and "Eye Detect" so I could chose to place the Spot AF on a bird's eye, then toggle on ""Eye Tracking" to take over the job of keeping the AF Spot on the eye of the bird. Really works well on birds, snakes and lizards so far, although it did get fooled by the "ear hole" on a Goanna (lizard) climbing a tree a couple of days ago.:-)

When I set up my Macro settings against C3 (C1 to C3 on the Mode Dial) I forgot to set up Animal Eye Tracking so had to fiddle around and set it on the run, manually. In the short time where I configured this and had the Hoverfly in the VF, I did notice the small Blue AF Tracking box on the head of the Hoverfly, but it also kept jumping to the white flower. This jumping may have been due to me removing pressure from one of the rear Buttons and not a limitation of Eye AF, as I was a little flustered at the time.:-)

If I start out in "Animal Eye" detect and AF Tracking Mode, the whole of the VF is active and the EOS R6 then decides what to focus on within the frame and sometimes, it may choose the "wrong" eye or a bright object and won't let go easily.

So, by toggling the rear buttons to let me select the eye then invoke eye tracking provides me the flexibility to identify the eye, place the Spot AF on it, then invoke Eye Tracking.

Cheers

Dennis

Great photos. I took some photos similar to the critter in your second photo. I am assuming it is another varation of hoverfly. Will post a couple later.

I must confess I had no idea what a daddy long legs face looked like. Not pretty!

Wow Terry, very nicely captured.

Many thanks. He was a little beauty. The main problem was the bin lid swaying in the wind!

This is NOT a "daddy long legs" in the US.

I think it's a crane fly although In dutch it's called a langpootmug(long legged gnat). Daddy long legs seems to be a harvestman spider.

Unless the creature in the linked picture has lost a couple of legs it is not a spider. As I understand it there are several arthropod species called 'daddy long legs', some are spiders and some are insects.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

... or opiliones! Which are neither spider nor insect.

There are many wondrous small arthropods besides insects and spiders - like millipedes and sow bugs - all welcome in this thread if you have pics of them!
