Yes, I've seen videos of them attacking hummingbirds! Crazy! Not sure if he was after his reflection, each jump had him landing on top of my lens, not the glass. I am beginning to like the lens more & more.

Thanks, it's a grasshopper, wish it stood here with the stance of the first photo:

This shot is the exact moment he decided to jump on my lens. He did it several times, did not appear to be afraid of me at all. I learned they do a little "wiggle" as they're getting ready to jump.

I have to say, when I find these bugs seen below, I get quite excited at the chase!

They constantly and I mean constantly move, unless stopping for food.

At best they are 2 or 3mm, and it seems there might be 2 different ones here, but it could just be the innards are showing in #3

Once again - the snout mites "Bdellidae".

Can't get over the detail you can extract from a crop sensor & such a tiny subject. I know, the crop sensors are great, I'd love the 90D for macro.

I have a Yongnuo flash on each side, Vello wire & triggers , small (6x9) soft box on each flash. I used to have a plastic cutting board bent over my subjects (like a rainbow) & the flash heads w/ boxes fire through that for extra diffusion. That was with a set of bellows & everything was tiny. The cutting board isn't nearly big enough but need to work on more/better diffusion.

This is what I use in the field. Good reviews, if you don't shoot the 5D. The negative thing that I completely agree with is that it EATS batteries. A large reason I started the "kidnapping program". I put 4 AA in the Yongnuos & can shoot all day. The Bolt flash only take AAA, & only 2, gives me 250-300 shots, which we all know does not take long.

I love that nymph katydid/bush cricket. The larva looks like a monster out of the deep.

That's a whole different world, and quite challenging shots to get I'm sure.

Spotted this small white fly-like thing moving slowly on the leaf of the bay laurel late on Monday night.

Turns out to be a dustywing - probably Conwetzia psociformis, looking at the wing venation. They belong t the lacewing family - Coniopterygidae, are a family of Pterygota (winged insects) of the net-winged insect order (Neuroptera).

There was also an opilione on a piece of house brick that sticks out of the soil near the recycling bins.

I really need to sort out my sensor - it's riddle with dust and badly needs a clean. Below you can see what I end up with after removing dust spots in Photoshop - this is a spittle bug taken this evening:

Looks OK doesn't it?

Now see what it started off like!!!

Sensor cleaning kit arriving Tuesday!

Paul.

After the first sensor clean session - will do another pass tomorrow...

There are now just a few dust spots and the cloning will be reduced massively, but another swab session might remove the remaining bits.
