I found some caterpillars on a milkweed over at the reservoir & knew they would be cut down again soon. I dug one up, planted it in a large pot at home & covered it with a net to keep out the birds. I now relocate any caterpillars I find on put on this plant.

I found this colorful guy on the plant when I got it home.

First of all the shots are terrific! Secondly...how do you go about catching all these jumping spiders?

LOL. Thank you. They are literally everywhere if you look. Of the 15 or so I've photographed this summer, all but 2 were found within 50 yards of my house. The other 2 were found at a nearby state park that has a few "no cut" areas to protect plants for butterflies & such. I use those areas as safe places for me to also release the spiders.

They are fast & many times go unnoticed as another critter like a fly. I can't tell you how many times I've walked by the side of the house or garage & there was nothing there. But on my return trip, not more than 5 minutes later, there is a jumper on the wall. There are 2 or 3 right now on my kitchen windowsill, no bigger than the head of a pin. As I mentioned with the jumper above, I found it because I was looking for flies to feed another, so I went to catch the fly & there was a jumper attached!

Thank you for the ID. Yes, the Laowa is getting a workout. Only negative thing I can say right now is it seems that diffraction sets in sooner than on my Canon lenses. I could go to f/16-f/18 without any fears of softening, but I try & stay around f/11-f/13. I could be wrong about this & just picking nits, i am usually critical of new equipment until I get comfortable with it.

I have no regrets deciding to get this and NOT fix the Canon AGAIN.

Great shots. You are correct, those are some crazy cool eyes. I need to photograph some flies & stop seeing them as just food for my jumpers.

Seriously, moth week? Today is the first time I photographed a moth all year. It's some type of "leaf mimic"? Looks crazy up close.

Thanks!

Yes,..."the moth sheet" is a thing...
It is a white bed sheet or white cloth hung with a light source left on at night. The moths and other "bugs" will gather on the white sheet therefore offering observations of moths and insects that we may not normally see.

I have a white bed sheet hung on the wall underneath my back porch light and just leave the porch light on all night when i want to do some "mothing".

simple instructions and photos here..
