Found this little girl on the side of neighbor's garage. Adorable red "mask".

1. How can you tell its a girl? lol

2. Do you usually find these spiders on plants so you can clip the plant and take your subject to your studio without too much disturbance?

LOL. I'm guessing. I do occasionally find them near the top of plants but mostly on buildings, almost all actually. They are in the bushes & plant & trees but very difficult to see & even harder to catch. 95% of my subjects are found on the sides of building, mostly tucked in crevices' of siding or brick on out buildings without too much human traffic. Whether or not the owners use pesticides play a large roll on where you;ll find them. :-( I'll catch them in a cup, many get away. I take no chance of hurting them, if it gets hard I just let them get away. I'll then cut a flower from my wife's garden or used dried flowers or sticks..... It can get difficult once they get used to me. Many times I can't get them to jump on the prop & sometimes just jump right back on my hand. They like to run up & down my arms & jump around. I'll hold my hand up to about a foot from my face & they constantly stop, turn & look at me. It's odd behavior for spiders usually fighting to get away non stop until they get away or die. I can usually only tolerate wrangling them for about 10 minutes, then send them home.

I'm impressed by your fortitude with these little creatures. Your shots are terrific!

I picked up a Canon 180mm macro as it has been niggling me for ages to give it a try.

It is definitely true the autofocus is slow but I am enjoying the ability to shoot from a distance. I think the auto focus will be better on my Canon R6.

Not sure it will ever compete with my Canon MP-E 65mm macro but it will be fun to see what I can do with it.

This particular shot was taken without a flash tho I have created a macro rig for it.

Well thank you. I have fun while I can, still furloughed from my job(s). If my life ever gets back to normal (2 jobs, 50-60 hours a week) it will all end. LOL.

The Opilio canestrinii, juvenile harvestman but it was running away - so all I have is the rear view... plus a sleeping dronefly on a leaf in the apple tree (taken at around 11.30pm)...

Enjoyed all images on this page.
Just so you guys/gals know, I'm on the super super slow/limited HughesNet since we've retired and relocated.
I'd love to look at all pages and comment but hard to do with the limitations. Maybe Elon will eventually get to me.

Found this Dragon hiding under a leaf in one of our weekly deluges. Brought him home for the shot then released him.
