I'm working pretty much all the daylight hours we have right now, so any macro shots I get are all grab shots of visitors to the supper table outside on the terrace.

Last night's visitor was a jumping spider, Saitis barbipes, a colourful cousin of the peacock spider and a species I often find in the house here in France, almost all year round. They are VERY active.....and that is my thumb he is on, not quite the stage I hoped he would strut his hairy little legs on!

Taken with the little S120 rig plus achromats

That is an extremely sharp and and impressively done shot.

I think this is a hoverfly, perhaps a species of Eristalis, Archie. Nice crisp shot though!

Thanks for the ID! I don't doubt it's a hoverfly, but it is such a diverse group.

Great shot, so sharp you can see every hair. Those eyes make it look like some kind of alien. They really are hard to photograph the way they move and jump.

Nice captures of the grasshoppers. The second one seems to be floating in air.

Nice ones, Pigpen. (I also handhold.)

You have quite the side lighting in the second shot. Are you using off-camera flash?

Thank you.

Yes, I have a flash w/receiver attached to a ball&socket type arm with a 5x7 soft box to camera left. I also have a Yongnuo ring flash but not used here. Still playing with my rig to get it where I completely satisfied. That may never happen. :p

The two are very nice, sharp grasshopper shots, Lee.

Ever since I was little, my Mom always said, "Ladybugs are your friends." I think it's because they kept the aphids out of her roses. They're still my friends. Nice shot, Archibald.
