Does anyone know what this is? It looks like a beetle with a hairy back.

Thanks, Mark. That is a very diverse family! (I'm still looking too...)

This is a stack of two sequential shots. One of them focused more to the back, so I combined them in Photoshop. Not a big difference but helps.

Interesting you used just two images. I'm enjoying getting to grips with focus stacking.

I find getting good macro focus very hard when hand-holding. AF is not up to it, and MF isn't either when camera and bug are moving. So I take several shots. Usually one in five or six will be OK. There will be variance in where the focal plane falls. If the shots are all from the same point of view, then it might be possible to stack them. Most of us have Photoshop and it does a good job. Helicon and Zerene are way more convenient, but are expensive.

I have to laugh at people that say "stack of 461 shots". If that's what it takes, fine. But often 2 or 3 works real well too.

Tried something different today up till recently everything I shot was in full manual because did not have equipment to do anything else but since I have a TTL capable flash thought would give it a try shot in aperture priority in TTL

Great stuff but can't quite see what it caught in the first pic.

These are all super. I don't see any difference from the manual shots. Try it on the long legged flies. They tend to be nervous and will take off at the preflash that you get with TTL.

Yes done decided that will not work on long legged flies only difference I see with TTL is a little more illumination in the background and shadows

These are terrific. What focal length lens are you using? Your DOF is really good.

I was going to get a twin flash but ended up getting the Flashpoint V-1 the modeling light works great for focus assist and love not having to use batteries plus it is much lighter
