I have nothing growing that I care about so I don't mind them especially since they are very photogenic.

May 29, 2023 08:09 | #8247 I had to saw down a dead tree near my storage shed, then noticed this little clump of debris move as I was inspecting some fungi on it. Image hosted by forum (1212070) © I Keith Newton [SHARE LINK] I was hoping it would be an owl fly larva. In the past, I’ve managed to find several adults, even one in the process of egg laying, plus eggs hatching. However at this stage of development, they are incredibly hard to spot. So I had to coax it into a tiny grass stem to see underneath. THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. Please log in to see the good quality stuff. It turned out to be a Green Lacewing larva. In this second shot, you can see the mandibles touching the grass stem, bottom left. Then three legs clutching the grass, and the abdomen just to the right of the top one.
