That is a cool beetle, and the stacking looks great. You are right, it takes patience. It should go faster with experience, though.

Harvestman, neither spider nor insect, but quite interesting nonetheless. Check out the close-set eyes on top of the body. (Just one eye showing.)

Nice shot. It's not every day you can get a good shot of a dangling caterpillar.

I was thinking the same thing. He looks kind of tangled up with the plant. :-)

He looks a bit off balance, legs not really organized. Mike says it well... tangled up with the plant.

Not your fault, though!

This may be to-MAY-to:to-MAH-to...............I was thinking it was confusing.........too much going on.

Very nice Archibald, but if it's neither insect nor spider, what is it classified as?

Nice interesting shot, Lee. Do you know what it will become when it emerges from this caterpillar stage?

They are opiliones, a kind of arachnid. Spiders are also arachnids, but are not opiliones.

It is interesting but confusing and I keep losing track of the relationships. These are all arthropods (with jointed legs). This huge phylum includes scorpions, centipedes, lobsters, crabs, and of course spiders and insects. And harvestmen.

If it has one main body segment, then it is a harvestman.

If it has two main body segments, it is a spider.

If it has three main body segments, it is an insect.

Lots of exceptions, of course.

Thank you for the explanations Archibald. It definitely sounds complicated to keep it all straight.

Damselflies are such beautiful, graceful creatures. Yet there can be a sameness to photos of them. Here are a couple shots of spreadwing damsels taken in Calgary. I hope these don't bore anyone.

Looks good, Terry! The 100mm opens up new worlds. It might take a while to tame that lens!

What is the white bloom on the yellow jacket? And I see it has company!

Thanks. Yes, it'll take some taming! Puzzled myself by the white "fur" but there were several similar bugs, all with that white on their backs. I didn't notice the tiny black bugs until PP. Couldn't even see them with the naked eye. I'm going to enjoy this lens.
