Testing out the new lens. The lens arrived Monday and I did some adjusting with the dock and got to testing the adjustments today. First 5 taken using a tripod. Last three using a monopod for the first time.

From this side, it looks like the monopod helps. It sure made a difference in keeping my camera motion down to a minimum.

Thanks for the info. I am still learning to use it properly and we are having quite a few arguments right now, lol. I will keep at it. I have read that some just don't succeed, but I am hard headed and will try until I kill the monopod.

Proximity was a big help on the last three along with using 1.4X TC vs 2X TC on the first five. My tripod skills are not what they should be for a big prime either. My expectation for the 2X TC is lower but should increase some as I develop the correct method on using a big prime on the tripod. I am doing research on both to ensure I use the best methods on both.

Are you using some sort of gimbal head on your tripod? If you are using a regular ball head, that's a tough one.

Gimbal on the tripod. The ball head was a pain for birding. I am very happy since going to the gimbal. I think I have some micro focus adjustments to do on the far end still. Having a hard time getting good feed back on the far end. Seems good the rest of the way. I will be able to dial it in in a little bit I think.

Yeah... a gimbal changed things for me too. So much easier to use with a longer lens.
