I have a broken Mamiya 645AF body, which used to be my main wedding camera back in the day. I finally took it out of retirement, purchased a used 105-210 lens, and got about three rolls out of it before it failed. Camera shop says the circuit board is fried. So, I have a lot of 120/220 film, and three lenses (45mm, 80mm, 105-210mm) for a dead camera body. The question is, do I purchase a used 645AF body (one online for about 550 now), or do I just take all the MF equipment to someone like KEH and get what I can out of them? I am using canon digital now, and am looking to purchase a couple of new lenses for the DSLR. I had thought just to get out of the MF world, but when I got the photos back from the lab it has been hard to actually pull the trigger and get rid of the MF stuff. I see the Pentaz 645d has dropped in price but at over $2k I cant justify this expense. Having a hard time going to spend the $1500 for the new canon 85 1.4 lens I am wanting. Any advice will be helpful, I guess! As an aside, if I go to KEH I also have a 1D3 I will be trading into KEH (although I wont get much for it either).

MF is always a tough decision but unless there was something particularly dissatisfactory about the 645 I don't see any reason for not picking up another. I would try to sell any equipment you are considering for trade-in privately. You'll get much more out of it. Someone may pick up your broken one off eBay for parts too. If you are set on buying from KEH (they are a very reliable source) search for coupons before purchasing. They regularly have deals in the -15% range. Best of luck with the purchase.

If you love the images, why wouldn’t you spend $500 and get another body? Sell to KEH and you’ll loose your butt, sell the lenses on these forums or even after eBay fees you’ll do better. I would see how much it might be to fix the body first then go from there.

Thanks. Yeah I agree. The camera shop said the only thing to do was find another body that was dead but not from the circuit board and repair, but it will be cheaper to buy a new body used than to repair it.
