Does anyone have a suggestion on how to do this? I will have no internet connectivity where Ill be. Basically out in the middle of no where needing to see how my photos came out before calling it a day and leaving the location. using lightroom CC also on the ipad. Or can use my android phone too.

Canons camera connect app is useless and only gives me jpegs. Any ideas? Seems like lighting to sd card adapters are not reliable and wont do it from what im reading? Or will it? All the bad reviews got me questioning.

On a camping holiday recently, using my 5D Mk IV, I copied (in-camera) all the CR2's from the CF Card in Slot 1 to the SD Card in Slot 2 (as CR2's).

I then inserted the SD Card into the Apple Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader/Adapter, plugged this into my iPad Pro 10.5" and it took 4 or 5 minutes to upload some 200 CR2 Files.

These CR2s appeared in the Apple Photo App in an Album (tagged as CR2's) and I could browse them on the iPad at a high resolution (pinch to zoom in), but I suspect that these were JPG views. When I tried to send one of these via e-mail, the attachment in the e-mail was an Icon with a CR2 filename and the e-mail could not render the CR2 into an image.

I have LR Mobile on the iPad and I was able to open the CR2 in LR Mobile, (from its Photos location) edit the file and save it as a JPG.

This was just a playing around session (executed 2 or 3 times over the week) whilst making a cup of tea, not an established work flow, so I cannot comment on how robust or useful this process might be to a serious user who wants to do some heavy editing.

Cheers

Dennis

As you've discovered iPads are not the best for connectivity; check the info at https://www.imore.com …hotos-your-iphone-or-ipad (external link).

Apple clearly states at https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht204977 (external link)

RAW files imported to iPad with the Camera Connection Kit

If you import RAW images to an iPad with the Camera Connection Kit, turn on Download Originals or edit the images on your Mac so that the files are available on your Mac in iCloud Photo Library.

When you work with RAW images on an iPad, the iPad shows the embedded JPEG thumbnail of the image created by the camera, not the actual RAW file.

I've added the underlining.

+1

(Thanks for saving me the trouble of finding that note from Apple. Remembered reading it but wasn't sure where!)

Hi, You could always try QDSLR Dashboard or DSLR Controller on a Android device (see there sites for compatable hardware). They give the option of RAW or Jpeg after the shot to view.
Russ.

Many Thanks,
Russell.
