The next POTN ( # 530) - Possibly the last challenge with the old rules - or the first with the new ones?

Could we use this as a clean thread to summarise our positions? The discussions have been spread over a few different POTNs.

My halfpenny's worth -

Open to any Canon, no mobiles, and still with voting which allows the viewers to go with their feelings as to the photo that captures the challenge and not necessarily the quality of that photo.

The emphasis should be on having fun and enjoying the company !

The original impetus for a change was low participation. It may be partly seasonal; people are traveling.

I like elfieh's idea, posted yesterday, better than making small compacts compete with DSLRs. That is, open the challenge to all brands but limit it to compacts. This would require moving the challenge to the Competitions forum and* (now this is the hard part) assembling a list of all the camera models that are eligible.

Nic, I'd say go ahead and start #530 with the old rules. Getting a consensus for new rules will delay it too long.

My opinions here can be discounted by half, as I hardly ever enter the challenge, I only vote.

*The latest word from management, as of July 1st, is that the challenge wouldn't have to be in Competitions. But where could it be?

I'm getting confused myself! I started 529 with the old rules - to keep the game alive while the discussion goes on.

The idea with this thread was to bring together all the opinions in time for 530, as they have been spread around a bit!

It does help. I didn't pay attention to the numbers. The "next POTN," to my mind, was the one that normally would have started right after your win. I go through the New Posts page(s) to catch up and saw this thread before I saw your exchange with Don about what to do.
