I'm really thinking about doing this. The 42MP is really nice but the A9 has the no blackout/no distortion.

Convince me of other than 42mp of things I will be missing?

If I make the move to sony, it will be the a9, I figure I wouldn't happy with anything else.

But I’m not a sports guy. Not primarily. Family but too many times I can find the anti distortion helpful for pure silent

The only real downside I can see is a really usable crop mode. If that’s something you like using on the R3, then you might not be happy with the ~10MP files from the non-R cameras. For me, 24MP is fine and I’m considering an A9 once prices fall some more, or maybe if there’s a killer Black Friday deal somewhere.

There are some video differences with the A9 vs the A73/R3, but I’m not a serious video shooter so I can’t really elaborate on that.

The A9 also doesn’t have the sensor shift mode I don’t think. I haven’t seen that being as useful as the similar feature on my OM-D, since you still get a 42MP file from the Sony, whereas the OM-D actually gives you a larger, more detailed file.

Here’s a nice comparison I found.

True, but I shoot kids events, around the house, wildlife in the backyard... I just feel that 24-30Mpx is all I really need, so if the A9 has so much more going for it over the A73, resolution wouldn't be my personal priority, all the other things would be. :)

Just depends on whether resolution and budget are higher concerns than what you get with the A9.

Perhaps a dynamic range. a9 has more noise in shadows at low ISO than both A7III and A7RIII.
Do you play with shadows or exposure slider in LR (or other RAW convertors) a lot?

Good point... I'm pretty amazed shooting backlit scenes and how I can lift...

The A7R3 has no blackout when using H+ shutter mode

Talley just buy it. I assure you that you will not benefit in the family documentation. .....it’s only money.

Lugging G master glass with the Sony is not much different than lugging your previous 5D Mark4. You should just be happy with the marginally smaller form factor Sony.

Heck buy an a73. Get an A9mk2 when it shows up.

Ide say go for it. Ide love the A9 for anti distortion, as that can be an issue on the R3.

No PP would mean that is have to post process all video clips too..... Not a deal breaker, but annoying.

The camera would be suitable for the majority of my shooting, and I'm all about that
