I have the Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art and it is a sharp lens. However, at f4 and above most of the 50mm lenses are very close in sharpness, including the Canon 50mm f/1.8ii. That said, it doesn't detract from the Sigma 50mm since it is also sharp at f 1.4 for when you need f 1.4. Personally I find the 24-70mm f/2.8ii a very nice plus flexible lens, however it might be out of your budget range. It won't do 1.4 but at 50mm f4 it's very close to the 50mm primes in image sharpness. But it will do 24 & 35mm as well as 50mm.
