I spent 87 minutes (59 lights) this morning taking this photo until the moon became a distraction. 47 lights were accepted by Deep Sky Stacker. So, this is my attempt at the Pelican Nebula. I am very happy with it and have a huge grin at the moment. I don't care that there was some weird streaking on the left, maybe it's the euphoria of managing to photograph this.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice work. Please explain what “47 lights were accepted by...” means. Are you using some sort of software to capture the image. I’m completely ignorant about your type of photography.

Hi Larry

In astrophotography, it is common to take a whole bunch of exposures then we stack those in software
A common prog is Deep Sky Stacker, as used above. Out of the 59 exposures @naddieuk took and put into DSS
it used 47 of the images and rejected the rest, for what ever reason …. out of focus, maybe a bright meteor or satellite
or aircraft crossed the field in some of the frames.

The main purpose of stacking of individual exposures is to reduce noise by raising signal to noise ratio among other things

Dave

I see. Interesting. Would that technique have any other applications.

Thank you everyone. Sorry, I was away and have just returned home.

I told DSS to accept the best 80% of the photos since I have an issue with tracking due to not having any guiding. Sometimes the stars appear as fat diagonals rather than round. Anyway, I have reprocessed it this evening as I am more awake than at 3am. I hope that this looks better as I have managed to tease out more data from it.

Thank you very much for looking.
