Edit … just noticed a type on the thread title

Hi everyone

I don't know how many solar observers we have on POTN ? But if you are one and you use a LUNT and their Blocking Filter, please take heed

There's problems with growing ( in size) patches on the blue (input) glass filter that only gets worse with time.

without me reiterating everything please visit these two threads on these other two forums ……

https://stargazerslounge.com …yours-you-wont-regret-it/ (external link)

https://www.cloudynights.com …pe-blocking-filter-issue/ (external link)

Note, this ISNT a problem with the filters in the actual scope … it ONLY affects the first filter glass in the blocking filter
Also Note: … I haven't had my scope for a year yet !

I was alerted to this by t he thread on Stargazers Lounge solar section and checked mine and found the patches

some filters, people have posted pix of, are showing much larger patches

The good news for this is … Lunt are happy to replace that blue filter glass and will send you one if you feel capable of swapping it yourself
A quick email to them and they responded by asking for the SN of my LS60THa scope and my snail mail postal address
The new filter glass was dispatched within 24 Hrs :-)

Now on top of all this, out of curiosity, I took off that orange rear back plate of the BF and was very surprised to find the tinted mirror on the
inner side of that orange plate was quite film covered. But even worse, the output filter glass was shockingly film covered on it's inside surface !!
I have cleaned that mirror and the inside surface of the output filter.

I suspect that MOST of the poor seeing and imaging I have suffered lately and blamed on poor atmospheric seeing, has really been the yucky
film layers on all 3 surfaces ...

1) outside of the blue input filter glass

2) the mirror

3) the inside of the output filter glass

Now, hats off and major kudos to LUNT.
With all the crap companies out there these days, here is one who still believes in good customer service !!
Well Done Lunt

Regards

Dave
