Guys,
I bought my Canon Pixma Pro a year ago and printed few pictures, however I later go busy and didn't get a chance to use it much. Today, I wanted to give it a try reuse it only to find out that all the colors are now falling apart, the colors are not bad but also coming out very wet.

Is this because the ink is all bad now? do they have the expiration date?

Should I get a set of new ink?

Let me know if you have experienced something like this

Thanks
R

Maybe ink expiration as the cartons on all inks are marked, but I think it more likely due to ink settling and separation as they sat unused for some time.

Try cleaning the printer head and then remove each ink cartridge, gently shake them a few time to mix the ink, then reinstall and print again. Perhaps that may help? If not new cartridges may have to be bought.

Run a nozzle check. If it isn't perfect, don't do any real printing - only cleaning - until nozzle check is perfect.

Printing with clogged (or ink-starved) nozzles can burn those nozzles out.

There is a distinction that should be noted..

Pixma Pro 1 and Pro 10 use pigment ink, where solid pigment particles are suspended in the liquid carrier. With these, shaking the cartridge does restore ink uniformity. In fact, at least one of the top Canon printers (don't remember which one) is programmed to perform that shaking as a maintenance routine.

The ink used in Pro 100 is dye ink, where the pigment is dissolved in the liquid carrier and never settles down.

Dye ink can deliver more saturated colors, but fades faster than pigment ink.

Too much ink sounds like a mismatch between the print driver and paper used. If you use a glossy paper that holds the ink on the very top, but select matte or plain paper in the driver, the print will be sloppy wet.

The 100 is known for being able to sit without much issue.
