What's this about?

Basically if the rights holder can not be found the copyright can be "avoided".

https://www.gov.uk …ce/copyright-orphan-works (external link)

http://www.copyrightuser.org …/exceptions/orphan-works/ (external link)

One wat to avoid this is to include an email and/or we address in the EXIF I use the IPCT EXIF fields for this. Of course things like that change overtime so some forethought is needed.

I had a website take a bunch of my photos and they published my email address, my email was spammed from all over. Why can't there just be common sense rules, if it is not yours and you don't know who it belongs to, it is still not yours?

Did you put your email address in your photos?

No, I sent a message to the site administrator telling him I did not like them removing my name and replacing it with their website name. Without me asking him to, he put a credit under one of the photos with my email address and I was spammed from all over, I ended up abandoning that account, it got to the point I was getting hammered with spam.

Something similar happened to me. A site owner put my address on a Web page (nothing to do with photos), and the spam never stopped until I changed ISPs for other reasons and thus got new addresses. It can be a major nuisance.

I use a special email address, they can spam all they like.

I agree the orphan work ruling is odd.

But TBH it seems to me no one takes any notice of copyright in the internet age, best to assume that you have just given stuff away if you publish it.

Anyway this is off topic, what we need to recommend is the preferred way to manage what is displayed by AMASS in respect of extended EXIF info.

This is why I suggest individual settings, you will get as many opinions as people you ask, so just let them choose.
