My Ronin-S finally came in. Here are my very first impressions right off the bat with it.
1. It's very heavy. I'm glad for the tripod that works as a second hand grip, because this thing will build some serious muscles. I also ordered a different handgrip that you hold out to the side that also mounts a monitor.
2. It's built like a tank. Seriously, a bomb wouldn't hurt this thing.
3. It's not compatible via USB with my Sony A9. This was very frustrating to me, as I bought this to be more than simply a stabilizer. I was really excited about the timelapse, motionlapse, panorama, etc. features on this gimbal. Thankfully, with a firmware update research that was a lot harder than it should have been, I found a work around. It can be triggered with an IR cable that was provided with the gimbal. It looks a bit silly, but it works.
4. So far it seems very smooth. I haven't had much time to play with it, but so far the joystick movements are as smooth as butter. Much smoother than my Zhiyun Crane V2.
5. It's very large. I knew it wouldn't be super small, but this thing would have trouble fitting in a normal backpack. That's unfortunate.
6. It holds a lot of weight. Right now I have my A9 and 24-70 GM on it, which weighs about 3.5lbs. The gimbal's rating says it can hold over twice that. Maybe I'll slap a battery grip on there and see how it does.
7. It's going to require some education. There are so many features that it will take me a bit of time to learn this gear.
I'm excited about learning how to use this gimbal properly, and building some arm muscles haha.
