Simple Lightroom question

When using the Adjustment Brush in LR I sometimes want to "invert" the area I have selected, so that all the image OUTSIDE outside the area selected is now the part that will be changed when adjusting. I can do this in other editing software, so is there a simple command or click that will do it in LR?

Unfortunately no, not so far as I know. Not possible with the Brush to inverse the selection, although it is possible with the Radial Filter.

I believe that you can use the brush to edit both the radial and graduated filters. I have to say that although I make a lot of use of the adjustment brush, I don't think I have ever really used either of the two filters.

No (and yes).
There is no commend to do what you want. The targeted adjustment brush allows to to make local adjustments to areas of the image. You brush it onto the area you want to change.... not the area you don't want to change. So the solution to your problem is to brush over the area you do want to change, rather than the area you don't want to change.

Alternatively use a global adjustment to change the area you do want changed and the local adjustment to undo that in the area you don't want changed.
