Highlights handled very well. Exposure very nice.

Bend your knees and see a new world ... changing your persepctive would have done wonders for this set up.

The cat looks very comfortable with you there, a pet? If so get some more but enter the cats world, from its view - you would probalby see a difference in the photos.

I like the lighting here. Very effective. The cat is set off from the surroundings, and the exposure and color balance seem to be dead on!

Thanks. It was not so good until I hit the 'auto all' in RSE. Amazing shooting in RAW...seems like cheating!

Yes...I am not very good at composing shots...but I am learning a lot here. It has become my favourite reading lately.

Do you recommend getting eye level to most your subjects (in general)? I have a lot of 'tilted' photos

Getting to a level not normally seen by people lends interest to the photo. It also lets you see the world from the perspective of the subject. :-)

Try it and find out. Not only eye level but other levels as well. Let the camera be the tool that hleps you expand the perception of the world around you.

A quick story. There was a famous leader of England during World War II. He was tough, uncompromising and perfect for the country. A Canadian photogapher, Yousuf Karsh was commissioned to photograph him for his official portrait. He set about to set up the cameras and when all done turned towards Mr Churchhill and did something very unthinkable - He grabed the famed cigar out of Churchhill's mouth. The Prime Minister of England became very angry that someone would actually do that to him. His face turned into a symbol angry defiance - at that time Karsh took the picture.
Durning the repeated bombing and hard ships the English people went though that picture of a angry and defient leader gave the entire nation strength ... a photographer through one portrait help create history becasue he saw a different perspective.

I can see how being at the same level really changes the perspective.

Your cat is smiling. At least that is what I have been told about when a cat has their eyes 3/4 shut and looking at you.

According to the EXIF data, you used "spot" metering. I wonder if that was intentional. If so, doesn't it look like you were probably metering right in the darkest fur - in which case, that would explain the over-exposure.

Yes I agree. The pics were merely to support the different perspective comment. Spot metering was the cause.

Thank you for the comments. Actually I was half resting on the back of the sofa where he was sat looking out of the window. It was fairly close-up with a 50mm 1.4 and I stopped down to about f3.5 to get a little depth of field (not enough though!). A little sharpening brings out the detail.
