Renting a cabin there for Labor Day weekend. Elk River Club to be exact. Anybody familiar with the area. Looking for trails, water falls, wild flowers. Or anything interesting. Also sunrise and sunset. Some in the group like brewerys.

Thanks

Roan Mountain / Roan Bald. A short drive from Banner Elk. Sits right on the Tennessee and NC border. Great spot, great hikes, great views, great shooting.

I am very familiar with western North Carolina. Used to live there and I've spent many years running around the trails in the mountains. I could probably fill every minute of your days with stuff to do in that regard.

There are just countless waterfalls all over this area. Weaverville and Black Mountain areas have some good ones. You're not far from Linville Falls. You can shop for more here. This has almost too many but very complete, how to find them and what to watch out for. http://www.ncwaterfalls.com/ (external link)

It's a drive for you but Transylvania County has more places to see and things to shoot than you can shake a stick at. DuPont State Forest has Bridal Veil Falls and Hooker Falls.....gorgeous but a pretty good walk, about 6 miles in and out. Grandfather Mountain has some unparalleled views and is not far from you. If you've never been to Biltmore in Asheville it is well worth the trip. Expensive but, again, if you've never been....plus Asheville has some top flight breweries. The Corner Kitchen is a most excellent restaurant there as well.

Chimney Rock near Lake Lure is a fun place. Views as far as the eye can see. Lots of hiking trails. You won't be into fall color at Labor Day but it's still a gorgeous area.
