i've never really done much longer than a couple of seconds .. I am familiar with some of the noise / aritifacts that i've gotten from a few seconds ..

how ever i'm not sure if this is what i'm seeing here.
first time i've done 60 seconds .. on first look . I thought "hey stars!! in nyc!! but then I quickly realized .. no way.

dust particles on sensor? ..

I was hoping to go out tonight for some more super long exposures.. but hoping not to have the white specks.

raw via drop box in case jpeg isn't good enough to evaluate ,

What raw converter are you using? it seems they can deal with this type of noise very differently.

For instance in CaptureOne, they do not look too bad and are easily removed. I thought LR/ACR had a spot/hot pixel remover, but maybe it is automatic. In any case converting to DNG and then opening in ACR, they do look pretty bad and noise reduction doesn't do enough. The free DXO software does better, but still leaves some spots. Still annoying, but could be removed in Photoshop or elements if you had a few 'key' images.

I guess I would go out and shoot and try to deal with them later since I don't think this is a technique issue. I'm not familiar with Panasonic raw files, no don't know if it is normal for that camera.

Well you could turn on Long Exposure Noise Reduction in the camera, and it will do the dark frame subtraction noise reduction for you. Of course that means the camera will have to make a dark frame for every exposure, This locks up the camera for the same length of time after the exposure is finished though. The other option is to do your own dark frame subtraction in post. In that case you will need to manually make a dark frame exposure of the same length. Good if you need lots of exposures that are the same length, otherwise you might as well just use the LENR and put up with the delays.

I can't see anything regarding spots using this monitor at work. But I have gotten stars/planets while doing long exposures even from lower Manhattan and Brooklyn so it's not out of possibility.
