filters for lens....

I have read you do and you don't....was wondering what some of the folks on here do with there lens:

I recently purchased a canon 16-35f4
canon 100-400 IS II
canon 70-200 2.8 IS II


would you put a filter on them for protection or just go with the flow.....and if you did would you get hoya?

any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

I use filters only as a modifier i.e. polarizing filter, or when in harsh environments like the beach on a windy day with a strong on-shore wind. For protection, I prefer a hood or lens cap. Also, many long lenses do not play well with filters.

Put the lens hood on. Leave it there. Now think about what you're shooting that would require more protection. ; )

depends on the situation. it's a religious issue for many but here's my take.

I have lee adapters on all my lenses as a default, and I rarely use hoods. but I also have protective filters for all my lenses, as well as hoods, and in some cases will use them. before I kept protective filters on my lenses as a default. it's your choice.

if you do choose to use protective filters just know there are some cases when you'll want to remove them. and if you choose not to default to protective filters there are cases when they are a good idea.
