(This post is actually an extention of this discussion)
In theory this little tidbit of technology is infinitely cool. However, for those of us who shoot in RAW (are there many of us?) the speed of transfer to the laptop of images makes using this for anything more than initial tests impractical even with an Ultra II card (I dont think id even use it for tests given the performance ive observed). From what I can tell it takes Canon's Remote Capture software about 60-90 seconds to transfer a RAW image to the computer. Who's got that kind of time on a shoot?
I mean ideally I would love to have the laptop set up as a monitor not only for myself but for the crew backing me (hair/makeup/designer/stylists/art directors/etc/etc). As good as it is to have them looking on as i work, fixing things as they see fit, it would be exponentionally more beneficial to allow them to see how the subject actually looks in the captured image!
Are there tweaks I dont know about? And I dont want to hear "stop shooting in RAW". Although even on medium jpeg (fine) settings it still takes about 5 seconds or more to transfer the file.
Has anyone here managed to get better performance than what you get initally out of the box?
