Hello,
what do you use for macro photography - monopod or tripod? Or another option, for example wooden cane... ?

For macro, I either use a tripod or handheld. For stationary subjects with adequate room and natural light, I typically use a tripod.

Think of increasing macro magnification like shooting with a telephoto.
With a moderate focal length you can easily shoot handheld, with a medium telephoto a monopod is highly recommended and with super telephotos (500-800mm) you better have a sturdy tripod and proper mounts.

With macro, shooting at 0.5:1 is easily done handheld, at 1:1 and higher a tripod (sturdy one) is needed and at higher magnifications sometimes mounting the camera on a big vice mounted on a heavy table becomes necessary.

100% tripod. I only shoot in available light and don't trust myself to hand hold it so I'm forced to use a tripod. The upside of the tripod is that it allows me to study the subject before I take the shot and have more "keepers" when it comes to composition.
