In photos: Inside the facility where Kodak brings film back to life

"Over the past 18 months, the Rochester, New York, company has worked to fine-tune the chemical mix that made the iconic film. Kodak will have it back in the hands of photographers later in 2018."

Ah memories.
Zeiss Contaflex and Ektachrome slides.
A beautiful film indeed.

Was not a cheap hobby though. SD Cards are cheap :p

Very cool and interesting, to be sure.

Shooting to film isn't of my interest, but I fully understand that
lotsa folks like doing so, and I respect that.

Don't know the difference(s), but it's a shame this can't be cause for a revival
of Paul Simon's catchy "Kodachrome" song. ;-)a

Those 'slide shows' were a family past-time, much to the kids disdain at times.
The money spent on slides and slide carriages and ........

But then I look at some of my great granpa's glass slides and wonder how on earth one survived with all that 'claptrap'

If you are referring to the difference between Ektachrome and Kodachrome, the Ektachrome product line was very user friendly as far as developing. The user could readily do the developing and mounting of the slides in the home. Kodachrome processing had to be done by a Kodak licensed lab since it involved a proprietary process. Ektachrome was also very forgiving in terms of pushing the ISO (film speed) rating.

Kodachrome also had a very toxic byproduct from the processing, or so i was told way back when i worked in a custom printing lab...

Thanks for the post.

I had no idea that what seemed to be nice simple Ektachrome was really 106 components distributed across 15 layers.

This image from the piece exactly matches my memory of the Ektachrome I loved and defended against the Kodachrome I secretly liked.
