what does this slider do on the canon 100mm macro L lens

there is a slider on the L lens that has full and .35 and .50 or something like that. sorry im not around my camera to look at the lens and get the correct information. can someone educate me on what this slider does. thankyou in advance.

Focus limiter. You can set it to limit focus from .3 to .5m, .5 to infinity or just infinity (full range of focus.)

thankyou for the quick reply. but if i understand right its just limits how close the lens can focus to the subject right?

Its purpose is to simply make focusing faster if you don't need the full range of focusing. By limiting the range of focus the lens will not take as long to focus if it fails to achieve focus quickly.

It does NOT limit focus. It simply tells the Auto Focus in which range to work. You can still focus manually to any distance, including infinity, with the slider set to 0.3-0.5.
