CanonRumors has a CR3 article indicating that two of the 4 white primes (300/4 II, 400/2.8 II, 500/4 II and 600/4 II) may be getting Version IIIs at Photokina. That would be pretty interesting. Not sure how they get even better. Only thing I can think of is that the weight gets shaved further. Plus, that would drive down the price of a 600/4 II which I have an eye on, now that the 600 DO seems to be just fantasy.

Maybe new Sony 400mm f2.8 put some pressure on Canon.

They could trash the existing focusing system and replace it with an entirely new system like the Sony has in their new 400 f2.8
