It's always sad to see one of these old birds go. They are irreplaceable. Luckily, all on board survived. Video here (external link).

Too bad. Do you know what happened? It looked like he didn't have enough airspeed when he ran out of runway.

That's what I'm thinking. It is really hot today, (112) and taking off when pretty full, you really need to keep it on the ground a bit longer and get some speed. If you watch the video, his tail wheel barely lifted and he pulls back the wheel. What you can't tell is if there was a mechanical failure forcing him to try and take off early.

I cringe when I hear about this. So sad to see these vintage planes destroyed.

In the last few years there have been a handful of WWII aircraft lost to accidents. Some of them I posted about.
And in some cases loss of life. Very sad.

I visit around 7 or 8 airshows yearly, most with warbirds in the sky. I'm always relieved when the planes land safely after the show.

Thanks for sharing the attractive photo.

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

Looks like the link I posted at the time went stale. I updated the link.
