The mirrorless camera is the result of Nikon's advanced optical and manufacturing capabilities gained through over a century of heritage.
The new mount "will work with the NIKKOR F mount lenses".
Nikon will continue to lead imaging culture with the launch of this new mirrorless camera, as well as with the continued development of Nikon digital SLR cameras.

Just going off the photo of the lady holding it, it looks like a good looking camera. Still has the DSLR-like grip and big viewfinder, but the lines are smooth. Going off the photo of the lady in the promotional shot, I'm guessing the sensor might be the alleged insane low-light sensor from this article: https://petapixel.com …en-unreleased-nikon-dslr/ (external link)

Nikon Rumors mentioned that they have trademarks and patents for lens labelled Noct meaning that this first camera could be aimed towards ridiculous low light capabilities.

There is absolutely no way I will be able to afford this camera, but I'm very interested to see what will come from this as well as Canon's competing camera.

Additionally, a new mount adapter is being developed for the new mirrorless camera. This will work with the NIKKOR F mount lenses that are part of the Nikon digital SLR system, adding to the variety of choices for photographers.

Sweet! :-D

The names of the two new Nikon full-frame cameras will be:
Nikon Z6: high speed, low light model (24MP)
Nikon Z7: high-resolution model (45MP)
The new Nikon mirrorless lenses could be called Z-Nikkor.
There will be a Nikon Z-Noct-Nikkor 58mm f/0.95 lens! This will be the fourth Z-mount lens and it will be
In the next official teaser or in the final press release, Nikon will greatly emphasize the inner diameter of the new mount.
Nikon will concentrate on high-end prime lenses for their new mirrorless system.
The 24-70mm f/4, 50mm f/1.8 and one more wide angle lens (24mm f/1.8 or 28mm f/1.8 or 35mm f/1.8) will possibly be available

Here is an actual hands-on report from somebody who actually handled the Nikon Z mirrorless cameras last week in a closed-door event in Asia:

The Nikon Z6/Z7 have many similarities to the Sony's 7 series
The new Z-mount is almost as large as medium format mount for some 6x6 SLR cameras
Handling and ergonomics are perfect
The Nikon Z6 and Nikon Z7 have exactly the same body and use the same battery
The EVF is fixed
There are no scene modes
There is a green AUTO mode as well as PSAM and 3 user settings
Both 24-70 f/4 and 50 f/1.8 lenses have a very fast AF, on the test images there were some signs of vignetting when shooting wide open

I know it is still too early to talk about the future Nikon Z mirrorless roadmap since the camera is not even officially announced yet, but here is a preliminary report coming from a reliable source:

2018:
2 cameras and 4 lenses: Nikon Z6 + Z7 with the 24-70mm f/4, 50mm f/1.8 and one more wide angle lens (24mm f/1.8 or 28mm f/1.8 or 35mm f/1.8). The Z-Noct-Nikkor will be announced later - maybe at Photokina.

2019:
Nikon Z Speedlight
Nikon Z booster/grip (not sure if Nikon will announce a "regular" battery grip next week)
Four or five new Nikkor-Z lenses - one or two will be zooms
So far there are no plans for a third Nikon Z mirrorless camera (full frame or APS-C)
Pictured above are all teasers of the new mirrorless camera released so far.

Here is another rumor posted here on NR by a reader (note: the source of this rumor is not a Chinese forum as some websites claim, the source is a NR reader who posted this in the comments section yesterday):

“Just spoken to a franchise director at LCE, apparently Thursday will be a very exciting day indeed. The adapter for the new mirrorless camera will pretty much be free when bought with either model, and the adaptor will make up to 400 lenses compatible so that’ll make all lenses with either electronic or mechanical apertures compatible.

The sensor will be better than the D850 owing to how they’ve constructed the diodes and the way it’s capturing more light, and the new range of lenses will have fresnel elements to give an ‘effective’ larger aperture (so I was told a 1.8 will be marketed as 1.8 but behaves like a 1.4, and be tiny) much like their new 300mm that shrunk.

Pre-orders coming Thursday to ship mid-November“
