these are all highly impressive, way out of my league.

A question re the wings. I've looked hard at them and assume there must be some membrane or extremely thin covering.
They all look like threads joined in some lovely pattern.
One a few posts back (closed wings) made me wonder as it looked like it was 'solid' not just a mesh.

This beautiful one looks quite sheer mesh, but then there's a sheen on its tips.

Yes, there is a system of veins creating the mesh pattern, with a very thin membrane overall. Along the leading edge is a rigid support called the costa. If you check out shots where the wing is damaged, you can see the membrane more clearly.

Thanks Trik, appreciate your comment.
I take a lot from this site, more than just pleasing photography.

Excellent shot, Martin, and not an easy one to accomplish.

There are some amazing dragonfly shots on this thread. I am most in awe of those peolpe who get in-flight shots, which I have tried for with little success.

Anyway here is one from me. A Darner Dragonfly I believe.

That first one is actually a male Banded Demoiselle, Becky, and your earlier "Darner" looks like a Migrant Hawker, although a topside shot would confirm it if there's a thin yellow triangle on segment 2 of the abdomen, just below the thorax.....

PS : Darners are not a UK species
