That looks like disco lighting :p

The eyes on those critters is almost like photographing a disco ball! Most digital sensors are very sensitive to the red channel, so it's tough not to blow the reds out unless the light is well diffused.

Wonderful light and composition! Just needs a little noise reduction.

This big dragonfly was apparently sleeping, since it let me approach to 1:1 with my Tamron. First one is cropped about 50%. Second is about 1:5 macro so I could get the whole thing in the frame. I began wondering if it was even alive, when I touched it I found out it was alive, since it flew away.

Autumn Meadowhawk - The last flying dragonfly of the season in the American midwest. I have heard they have been spotted in December, but the latest I have ever seen one is late October.

Common Hawker (thanks for the ID SteB). When I tried to move the stalk across its wings, it flew off and my Photoshop skills are not up to moving it in post!

We had our first frost yesterday morning. It didn't seem to bother this damsel. She was alive and well yesterday evening.

Nice capture. This looks like a female Common Hawker (Aeshna juncea). It has the right markings and the distinctive yellow costa. I'm an experienced Odonata recorder and I'm very familiar with this species.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.
