Nice capture. This looks like a female Common Hawker (Aeshna juncea). It has the right markings and the distinctive yellow costa. I'm an experienced Odonata recorder and I'm very familiar with this species.

Thanks, Steb, I'm no expert and just looked it up on the internet. Guess I got the wrong one. Thanks for the ID.

I believe you're correct. Got confused with my other image posted up thread. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I am new to macro and somewhat new to photography being 15 years old. Any comments to help me improve would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

Welcome to the forum Alex! That is a good shot of an Autumn Meadowhawk - usually the last of the dragonflies of the season. There are plenty of good tutorials on the internet about macro technique that you might check out. The only advice I would give is just to get out and shoot and have fun! If you want a minor quibble on this shot, the top part of the upper wing is cut off - try to get the whole fellow unless you are doing a "portrait." Look forward to seeing more from you. Lee

Welcome aboard Alex
You've presented yourself here with a very neat photo.
My only comment, from an oldie, is allow your mind to dictate not your camera.
The camera is at your command, not other way round.
Yes cameras have limitations like us, but learn them, then you're the boss.
You've come into photography where clicks and results are free (once you've bought the camera :p) not like in my youthfulness where each click cost money to see result.
Go for it and enjoy.

Richard

Thanks, and thank you for starting this thread. Dragonflies were a big part of my childhood and they remind me of those early years every time I see them.
