Wow, That Violet Darter is a beautiful creature. In fact I think it is the most beautiful DF I have ever seen, and great shot as well. Congrats.

Thanks! Here's another one:

I stopped at Lago d'Averno and photographed this Violet Darter in the heat of the day. I know the habits and quirks of this species, so it's not too difficult to get right on top of them (especially when they are actively hunting).

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to 2x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT (E-TTL metering, -2/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. I post I used Denoise AI, and Clarity in that order.

At life size my flash is at the maximum distance that it will get from the subject, so this represents my worst case light quality.

Tech Specs: Canon 80D (F11, 1/250, ISO 100) + a Canon MP-E 65mm macro lens (set to 1x) + a diffused MT-26EX-RT (E-TTL metering, -2/3 FEC). This is a single, uncropped, frame taken hand held. I post I used Topaz Sharpen AI, Denoise AI, and Clarity in that order.

I greatly appreciate that you posted all the technical details of your photos. I am just trying to learn how to photograph dragonflies and damsel flies, and greedily consume any information I can find.

Happy to help! If you can stand the poor quality of the audio and watch this video until the end you'll see how I can get close to them:

The ruins in the distance are what's left of an old Roman temple and market complex.

This is a beautiful composition from an artistic standpoint. But I'm just starting to learn odonates, so the comparison between the sexes is very interesting to me as well.

You must have got them to pose! Very pretty with the flowers and the background.

There where even flowers with 4 of them on top , but photographic not a succes.
I´ll have waited in total more than an hour ,when the male was slowly creeping on top.
