Hey Jack, My first impulse when seeing this was female common whitetail, but I'm not a real expert, but you might want to take a look.

Hello John, I love the abstract nature of the wings in particular. It really stands out among all the beautiful shots everyone are taking here. As a new member here today I can see I’ll be in for challenge!

A favored damselfly in my area is the American rubyspot (Hetaerina americana). These are a wide-spread species of broad-wing damselfly that favors clear rivers with a sandy substrate. I have a favorite spot for photographing them, and here are a few results from two summers ago, and then some more from the exact same spot taken several years ago.

I had thought that females are not be quite as colorful as males, but maybe I should reconsider that.

It seems to me that males are harder to approach. Here is a mature male, vigorously guarding its riverside territory. It would fling itself at any passing damselfly, and then return to this same spot. I only had maybe a few seconds before it was off again.

Here is a young male, not yet in full breeding colors.

A mature male. My goal is to photograph these in the late afternoon so the low sunlight glows thru the wings.

And this is by far my most remarkable encounter with this species. The female had captured a recently emerged damselfly, while the male guards against intruders.
