This Graphic Flutterer was chiling in the sun when I stopped to get a few shots. This is the best one I got. It always feels a bit like cheating when I try to get macro shots with a telephoto lens...

Not cheating at all. Especially with that close-focusing lens (there's even a thread for 'macros' with that lens). It's the picture that matters, not the gear.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

I don't know much about dragonflies, but I didn't realise they ate other dragonflies :!:
This blue skimmer appears to be chowing down on another, smaller, more unfortunate dragonfly...

The adults you see flying only live a few months, if that. Most don’t die a natural death, but are eaten by fish, birds, etc.

Taken with the Canon RF 100mm F2.8L Macro lens (not yet in database).

Cheers

There’s great detail there, particularly in the second shot, well captured.

This one landed at shoulder height, facing me and loitered longer than the usual split second.:-)

Normally, I swear that they can "sense" that you are about to take a photo and as you lift your lens, they take off to alight deeper into the bush.

Cheers

Dennis

EDIT: Taken with RF 100mm F2.8 L (lens not yet in database).

Got lucky this morning as this Damselfly alighted on a blade of grass under which a water droplet was suspended.:-)

Got even luckier in that the Damselfly let me bang off a few shots before flying off.:-)

Taken with Canon RF 100mm F2.8 L IS USM Macro lens (not yet in database).

Cheers

Dennis

Lovely shots. How are you finding the RfF 100mm?

Lovely shots. How are you finding the RfF 100mm?

Thanks.:-)

The main reason I replaced my Canon 100mm F2.8 L IS USM macro with the RF version was the promise of a native 1.4:1 magnification, and when I am able to get that close, I do like the increased magnification.

However, at 1:1, the RF and EF versions are far more alike than different, as I cannot really see any major jump in IQ.

Cheers

Dennis
