For some strange reason all the wireless releases I have been looking at show as being ok for all the 1D series up to the IV but not the 1Dx. Surprisingly these same releases also show the 7D but not the Mark II and the show up to the 5DIII but not the IV. Can someone recommend a wireless remote for the cameras mentioned in the title? Also looking to use for groups of shot with a timer, so more than just a button would be preferable.

If a release works for a 1D4, I don't see any reason it wouldn't work on a 1DX. I suspect the supplier just hasn't updated the models it works with since the newer cameras came along...

The corded release I bought originally for a 20D works happily on 1D2 & 1D3, and I've just tested on 1DX & works fine.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

WE1 adapter plus a phone with the Canon app makes for a good remote system.

Thanks for the input on the SD adapter. Good to know it works well. Any suggestions for the 1Dx?

Like what the other comment(s) say, if a release works with the N3 connector on the older bodies, there is no reason it shouldn't on the new bodies. It is a simple contact switch system to trigger the remote, there is no software protocol/communications, etc.

This is why many of the wireless remotes are considered overpriced. They are simply a wireless relayed contact switch, which has existed for a very long time, going through a proprietary connector. Base your purchase on the ease and availability of the batteries, then by price.

2 of the 3 pins go grounded to focus, a different 2 of the 3 go grounded to take the shot.

With my 5D3 cameras I used these Hongdak RC-6 remotes. They do not work with my 1DX and upon further evaluation there isn't even a little remote signal mode icon for the 1DX.

Those remotes referred to above are infrared. So it seems infrared (which is a wireless remote) are not compatible with all cameras.

According to Compatibility list no 1 series works with RC-6. (5DIII and IV do)

I believe the discussions are centered around the Canon N3 based triggers. Not even all non 1d Canon cameras support IR triggers.

I wound up buying this one https://www.amazon.com …age_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (external link) It is a Pixel with a ton of options and wireless and $42 shipped. Going to be using it for self photos with my girlfriend while in Vegas but also may head out to the desert a couple times at night and wanted to make sure I would be able to set things up so that I wouldn't need to touch the camera(s).

If it doesn't work then i return and go with the cheap $30 unit.

The 7D2 already had an internal intervalometer, but perhaps the remote will be easier to use.

The (non-IR) radio remote release that worked on my Canon 5Dc and Canon 40D still works with my 7DII
I never bothered with IR remote because my use was not necessarily in the lens' view, and/or because the release simply HAD TO work -- regardless of the brightness of the ambient light!

Via Amazon one can get

"WAAO IR Wireless Shutter Remote Control for Canon EOS 6D Mark II, 5D Mark IV III II, 5DS 5DR, 7D Mark II, 77D 6D 7D 80D 70D 60Da 60D SL1 /Rebel T7i T6s T5i T4i T3i T2i T1i XSi XTi/M6 M5 M3"

...but no 1Dn body is supported with WAAO IR Wireless Shutter Remote, it supposedly takes a different product(?)

"Pixel TW-283 N3 Wireless Shutter Release Wired Remote Control For Canon EOS-1D X Mark II,1D X,1Ds Mark III,1Ds Mark II,1Ds,1D Mark IV,1D Mark III,1D II N,1D Mark II,1D, D2000,5D Mark III, 5D IV"

...yet notice that the 5DIII and 5DIV are in BOTH LISTS!
