I have been out of photography for a couple of years due to complete lack of time. Getting back into it a bit but technology has moved on so much and I am feeling very outdated :).

Anyway, I am looking for suggestions for any pass-through triggers that can do HSS with Fuji X-T1 and the older Godox flashes (AD 360 / 850 first versions). Since I already have the older FT16 (433 MHz) triggers I am trying to figure out if there are any pass-through transmitters that will let me do HSS so I don't have to update my legacy flash or triggers? Can anybody point me in the right direction to find the cheapest and simplest option? I don't care about groups or lcd screen on trigger - dumb pass-through trigger that will let me mount my Godox FT16 triggers on camera basically just for HSS.

Thanks!

HSS requires that the camera can send an FP sync signal to fire the flash.
That requires a trigger that will work with the camera TTL signaling. The Godox X system will do that for you on the XT1. The only other thing you will need are the 2.4 Ghz receivers for your lights.

Also, remember that the older lights require that you place them in H mode on the light. They do not automatically switch to H mode.

So, new trigger and receivers. Not a big deal.

Thanks guys!
So I think I will just get the new trigger/receivers then. I was trying to avoid duplicating my earlier triggers as I find their simple interface very appealing, however in this case it just makes more sense to get another HSS capable set, especially considering the low price of Godox Triggers/receivers.

If you use your older 360's in HSS on max flash power mostly then you will be limited to only 10 shots before thermal protection kicks in, 20 shots if using 1/2 power. If you mostly use full power when in HSS there is a way to work around the thermal protection and you can use your older 433mhz transmitter and receivers with the new Godox X1-T transmitter, without the need to buy X1-R receivers.

Its called Faux HSS and you set your 360 to 1/1 power in regular shooting mode (not H mode). You put the FT-16 transmitter in the hot shoe of the X1-T transmitter and use your FT-16R receiver in the 360. You will need to go into the X1-T menu and set an FP Synx delay of around 21 for starters. You adjust the FP Sync delay to give you a clean frame for your flash exposure. If you have black banding at the top or bottom of the image just adjust your FP Sync delay up or down. This only works on 1/1 power. You will also not be thermal limited as you would be in H mode (HSS).

... I am looking for suggestions for any pass-through triggers that can do HSS with Fuji X-T1...

Small note. You probably know this, but you have to have firmware v5.0 or later on the X-T1 camera body (current version is v5.4 (external link); check what you've got loaded on the camera by holding down DISP/BACK while turning it on) before you can have HSS. You need to set HSS/FP on the camera menu to get HSS with Godox gear, and without the correct firmware version, you won't have the menu selection.

... and the older Godox flashes (AD 360 / 850 first versions). Since I already have the older FT16 (433 MHz) triggers I am trying to figure out if there are any pass-through transmitters that will let me do HSS so I don't have to update my legacy flash or triggers?

Yes, but Robotshoot or Cactus V6II triggers are probably more expensive and a PITA than just updating your Godox triggers. :)

You can replace the FTR16 with XTR16 (external link) and the FTR16s with XTR16s (external link) receivers. They should let you do HSS with the X1T-F (external link) transmitter. But again, caveats with the X1T-F: it needs to be at v03 or later firmware and C.Fn-11 needs to be set to 01 or 02 (reports differ) for the 2.4GHz X16 triggers to work with HSS, and HSS needs to be set on the flash itself. Also not 100% sure that it'll work with the (much better UI) XPro-F (external link), as currently the TT600/V850II don't do HSS with one, and that's the same problem the X1T-F had prior to the v03 fix.

Be advised that with the GODOX X1T-F Transmitter there is no way to fire a legacy Wilstro AD360 paired with a XTR16 with the E group set to manual. Communication is alright for setting the FEC values (you can hear the beeps), but it won’t fire the flash in HSS, even though it works alright with shutter speed below 180 of a second. This bad experience concerns in my case a Fuji X-T1.

Moreover, no FEC compensation is possible with my Ving 860 and my two Nikon SB900 in TTL mode. I works OK for my AD600, my AD200 and the Ving 860II, for the latter only if you adjoin a Nikon receiver (which is theoretically unnecessary).

What's the firmware version on your Fuji X-T1? (You need v5.0 or later to get HSS)

I've got the latest firmwares. My X-T1 is at 5.40 and my Godox X1-TF at version 05. I've done tons of tests with my AD360. I've read somewhere that the issue stems from the XTR16, but I'm not sure though

My C.Fn-11 is set at 00. Should it be different? I dare say the manual is a bit cryptic:

"00 the General FUJIFILM cameras"
"01 The cameras that use between-the-lens-shutters e.g. W100F, X100F, etc. Choose this option and set all groups to M mode can reach high-speed sync within 1/1250s"
"02 Choose this option and set all groups to M mode can solve the problem that the TT600 and V850II cannot achieve high-speed sync flash when triggered by X1T-F"

I'm puzzled by the last option: As far as I know my trigger has no high speed problem with my Godox AD600 (with firmware 1.5) and my V860N (with firmware 2.3).

Moreover, when I use my trigger, and keep some groups on TTL and put my AD 360 on the E channel which is only manual. Putting everything on manual is not an option for me.

What option do you advise?

Yes. It needs to be set to either 01 or 02 (reports differ) to get HSS with the XTR16.

The TT600 and V850II are the single-pin manual-only speedlights in the Godox system. The Xpro-F transmitter actually has an identical issue: it cannot trigger the TT600 and V850II in HSS, even though it should be able to. We wait on a firmware release.
