I am leaning toward removing a skin colored mole above the lips of the Bride about the size of a pencil eraser. She has other moles some dark and some light on other locations but the face of a wedding photo is important in my view.

I would think this is important to remove or am I wrong here? Thoughts?

unless she specifically asks you to remove a blemish, I personally wouldn't touch it.

if it were a blemish (zit)....then she'd appreciate it most likely. A mole is part of what she looks like tho.

I think it has to stay. I like to remove small blemishes and pimples, but a mole is more personal and should be left.

A little late on this one but i concur and think that it should remain, My sister has a mole on her forehead and i talked to her about it being removed surgically but she says she likes it and is a part of her so she wouldnt want to get rid of it anymore. Same in pictures.

I leave them on the face but just the other day I removed one from the back of a bride in a shot that showed a lot of her back.

IMO people identify with their face no matter what it looks like. A body mole they probably don't care either way because it really isn't part of there "identity".

Unless she wants it removed, & depending on where & how prominent it is, I might knock it's density down a bit.

Darker-skinned people often gain moles as part of the aging process, the way lighter-skinned women will get age spots. The older they are, the more moles they have--more appear each year than the previous year--and the moles also grow larger with age. These are different from the "character" moles a woman might have had all her life. I photograph a lot of older darker-skinned women, and not only not mind me removing a lot of those age moles, they often ask for it. My approach to removing age moles is the same as my approach to removing age spots and wrinkles.

I always--always--lighten the moles I don't remove. Nobody's mole is as obvious to them in a mirror as a photograph makes it appear.

^^^ This!! Why not ask. You can be a bit more diplomatic than Uncle Buck (external link), but by asking , you can deliver exactly what the customer wants.

You're supposed to know what looks good. Part of being an artist and professional.

The artist can only know what the artist thinks looks good. When shooting for a client, my guess is the client's opinion is a tad more important. The only way to know is to ask.

If looking good were the only criterion for my photos, the only thing I'd ever shoot is Amy Yasbeck.

Never know -- but I could always use the company regardless as us grumpy folks need to stick together.
